Ajax have left Tottenham target Davinson Sanchez out of their squad for their clash with Heracles on Saturday night.

The Colombian centre-half is wanted by Spurs, who have opened talks with Ajax over a possible £35million move.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is understood to be in Amsterdam trying to thrash out a deal for the twice-capped 21-year-old

Sanchez has made himself one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe, having impressed during the Amsterdammers run to the Europa League final last term.

Mauricio Pochettino and his scouting staff have made Sanchez - Ajax player of the year last season - a top target ahead of the close of the transfer window.

Ajax have offered Sanchez a huge new deal to stay in Amsterdam, but his future is uncertain.

Ajax boss Marcel Keizer and sporting director Marc Overmars have both held talks with the player, whom they want to keep for another season.

Keizer confirmed on Saturday afternoon that Sanchez had been left behind from the travelling squad for the trip to Heracles.

"Marc Overmars and I have both had contact with Davinson about the things that surround him,” said Keizer.

"Of course, I hope he stays with Ajax, but tonight we play without him.

"I only want players with 100 per cent focus on Heracles."
