Tottenham's £27million target Davinson Sanchez has gone on strike — refusing to board the Ajax team bus for their first game of the new season.
The 21-year-old Colombia star appears to be on the verge of moving to London, with Spurs’ representatives in the Netherlands to tie up a deal with his Amsterdam-based club.
Ajax — who lost 2-1 at Heracles on Saturday night without the highly-rated youngster — valued Sanchez at £35m, far more than Spurs’ initial offer of £20m.
But negotiations have moved on over the last 48 hours, with the north Londoners upping the ante and including add-ons which could take the deal to £35m.
That has persuaded Ajax to sell Sanchez, who played in the Europa League final defeat by Manchester United in Stockholm.
The deal will end an uncomfortable summer for Mauricio Pochettino, with fans increasingly frustrated at the club’s failure to strengthen with all their rivals splashing the cash.
That triggered an outburst from full-back Danny Rose, an Old Trafford target, who claimed he is underpaid and wants Spurs to sign well-established stars rather than unknowns you have
to Google.
Versatile Sanchez is rated one of Europe’s most promising defensive talents and can play at right-back as well as centre-half.
