The transfer window is now officially closed!

After a summer of record-breaking deals, the fax machines can finally be unplugged for another few months.

The biggest deal to be announced on deadline was undoubtedly Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's switch from Arsenal to Liverpool.

For Alexis Sanchez, however, it was a disappointing evening as he could not land his move away from Arsenal, as Thomas Lemar could not be secured as his replacement.

The window is also now officially closed in Spain too - and Barcelona have withdrawn their interest in Philippe Coutinho.

Recap over all the action as it happened and follow all the fallout from a dramatic deadline day here.

Atletico 'urge Costa to return to Chelsea'

Atletico Madrid have urged Diego Costa to return to Chelsea to boost their chances of landing the Spaniard in January.

That is according to the Daily Mail, who say Atletico remain confident of sealing a deal for the striker when the transfer window reopens.

Costa failed to secure a move away from Stamford Bridge over the summer and is unwanted by Blues boss Antonio Conte.

He is currently in Brazil on a self-imposed exile from west London, but Atletico, who are under transfer embargo until January, have apparently advised him to go back.

Pereira signs new United deal

Andreas Pereira has committed his future to Manchester United by signing a new two-year contract.

The 21-year-old midfielder, who will spend this season on loan with LaLiga side Valencia, is now tied to the Premier League club until 2019, with the deal including an option for an additional 12 months.

Manager Jose Mourinho told United’s official website: “Andreas is already a very good footballer. He is a young player with great natural ability and a good attitude towards continuing his development. I have no doubt that he has the potential to be one of the future great players of this club.”

Liverpool laugh off Barca's Coutinho claims

Liverpool have rubbished claims they were happy to sell Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona for £183million.

Barca club director Albert Soler claimed on Saturday that Anfield officials had told the Catalan giants they would part with their prize asset for €200million, report the Liverpool Echo.

That claim has been robustly denied by senior Liverpool officials, who insist that they never placed any such valuation on the player and that Barcelona’s claims are false.

Liverpool’s stance throughout Barcelona’s protracted and increasingly desperate pursuit of Coutinho has always been that the Brazilian was not for sale at any price, and that negotiations would not even be considered.

Di Maria's move to Barcelona broke down after PSG demanded £64m

Angel Di Maria’s deadline day move to Barcelona broke down after Paris Saint-Germain demanded £64m (€70m).

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star has been a long-term target for the Blaugrana due to his close relationship with Lionel Messi.

After grabbing Neymar from the Catalan giants, PSG were unprepared to sell one of their star players in the opposite direction.

Barcelona were also left frustrated after being priced out of a move for Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho, who quoted a massive £183million (€200m).

The Reds had maintained that the Brazilian was not for sale at any price but the Blaugrana’s director of professional sports Albert Soler has announced they received an ultimatum on deadline day.

Bale to United?

A deal for Manchester United has been ‘sanctioned’, according to a report in Spain.

Alex Porter from Mirror Football’s sister site Manchester Evening News writes that the Welshman has been linked with United throughout the summer.

Jose Mourinho admitted that, should Bale become available, he would be interested in signing him.

Although the United manager called it ‘game over’ in the pursuit once Bale started the Super Cup clash for Real Madrid in Macedonia, that did not stop the speculation that he could be moved on this summer.

And Spanish outlet Don Balon reports Mourinho had convinced the United board to spend £90m to take Bale to Old Trafford, while the move was sanctioned by Real manager Zinedine Zidane and president Florentino Perez.

Liverpool wanted €200million for Coutinho

Barcelona have made the stunning claim that Liverpool were prepared to sanction the sale of Philippe Coutinho on deadline day - but only for a massive £183million (€200m).

The Reds had maintained that the Brazilian was not for sale at any price but the Blaugrana’s director of professional sports Albert Soler has announced they received an ultimatum on deadline day.

Despite receiving funds of almost £200m from Neymar’s sale to Paris Saint-Germain, Soler insists they were not prepared to put the club at risk by indulging a crazy transfer market.

He said: “After weeks of offers [for Coutinho], yesterday Liverpool wanted €200million for one player. We won’t put the club at risk.

“We don’t want to get caught up in such an inflated market. Normally it’s traditional clubs that are big actors. Not right now.”

Lemar to Liverpool in January?

Liverpool will consider another bid for Thomas Lemar in January after failing with a deadline-day bid for the Monaco midfielder.

The Anfield club joined Arsenal in launching a raid on the French club for the in-demand player.

And according to reports in his homeland , Monaco rejected an £82million off from Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp had already completed the signing of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal on Thursday.

But he wanted to add even more quality to the middle of the park.

Arsenal themselves failed with a £92m bid.

No go for Ozil

Barcelona will not move for Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil as a possible alternative to Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho, according to reports.

Alejandro Moreno told ESPN that the Catalan giants, who were reportedly considering a move for the German, have been desperate to replace Neymar.

But despite Ozil fitting the bill, Moreno doesn’t think he is truly on their radar as he won’t “add a whole lot of value to Barcelona”.

Moreno said: “Is Mesut Ozil staying at Arsenal? I think he still is. I don’t think at this point in his career that Mesut Ozil will add a whole lot of value to Barcelona.

“If I feel that way about Mesut Ozil, I feel that way about Riyad Mahrez.

“The desperation of Barcelona may just change this the other way, it may just say ‘you know what, we need to get something, anybody, anything.’”

Barkley to Spurs?

Tottenham are hopeful of gazumping Chelsea in the transfer market once again - this time for Ross Barkley.

Spurs are intending on making their move for Barkley in January, according to the London Evening Standard.

Barkley snubbed a move to Stamford Bridge with just an hour of Deadline Day remaining despite arriving at their Cobham training ground for a medical.

The Everton midfielder is thought to have had second thoughts about the move.

Barkley could still move on when the window re-opens as he would have more time to consider his options - and Spurs are likely to be one of those available to him.

Who are the best free agents still available?

The fun and games of deadline day might have been and gone but there is still a loophole to bring fresh players to the club.

Free agents are free game to sign and add to squads outside of the summer window and January.

Southampton did it last year when they added Martin Caceres outside the window - the Uruguayan making just a single Premier League appearance before being released again.

But will anyone take the risk on a free agent and will some unwanted stars finally find employment again?

We got Alex Smith to run the rule over the best freebies available.

Gazzetta dello Sport: Arsenal had WORST window in Europe

Arsenal’s horror dealings has been rated the WORST summer transfer window in Europe but Premier League rivals Manchester United top the pile.

The Gunners were handed a 4.5 out of 10, with just Barcelona and Porto’s fives coming close to their calamitous score by Gazzette dello Sport.

Arsene Wenger endured an awful off season where he managed to bring in club record signing Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon and defender Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer.

But it is the business they didn’t manage to do which as angered fans - with Kylian Mbappe and Thomas Lemar slipping through the cracks.

The north London side also saw Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain leave to rivals Liverpool, with Wojciech Szczesny, Gabriel Paulista, Kieran Gibbs, Lucas Perez, Yaya Sanogo, Joel Campbell and Carl Jenkinson all departing.

However, United finished up top of the pile in the ratings, as they were awarded a nine out of 10.

Spanish window is closed!

In what could be considered a boost for Liverpool fans, the Spanish transfer window is closed.

Midnight marked the end of potential trading for players in La Liga and below and, barring a late and very quiet move by Barcelona, Philippe Coutinho remains an Anfield player.

After last night’s showing for Brazil, with a sensational goal started and finished by the forward, that is surely a good thing.

As with the Premier League last night, however, deals can still be completed if the appropriate paperwork has made it to the authorities.

And we’ll be sure to let you know if that happens.

N'Zonzi set to remain at Sevilla

Steven N’Zonzi is poised to remain with Sevilla for another season.

The former Europa League winners have had to beat off competition from Juventus for the former Stoke midfielder.

But with the deadline approaching, it appears that a move will not be completed in time.

N’Zonzi has a €40m release clause in his deal at the Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan and has previously stated his desire to move on.

Wenger admits Lemar snubbed Arsenal move

Arsene Wenger has admitted that Thomas Lemar snubbed Arsenal on Deadline Day.

The Gunners had a £90million bid accepted by Monaco in the dying hours of the transfer window but failed to get a deal over the line.

Lemar’s arrival would have allowed Alexis Sanchez to complete his transfer to Manchester City.

But as Arsenal could not secure his replacement, they did not let Sanchez leave.

Speaking on French TV on Friday evening, Wenger admitted that it was Lemar’s decision to turn down the deal.

“The player has chosen to stay in Monaco,” Wenger told beIN Sports.

“You do not want to talk too much about. You have to respect what happens on the negotiation side.

“I know we live in the era of transprency but at some stage, to respect everybody you have to not talk too much about that.

“Look I cannot tell you everything that happened because after that when you decide to let a player of that calibre go, you need to replace him because nobody would understand that you let the player go and when you cannot do it.

“You keep the player and make a financial sacrifice because what you want, at the end of the day, is to have a team who has a good potential and top quality.

“That means two things: Alexis Sanchez will go, like Mesut Ozil, in the final year of his contract or you think during the season you will find a way to extend the contract or at the end of the season the players go for free.”

Campbell speaks after returning to Betis

Joel Campbell insists heading back to Real Betis is just like going home.

The Costa Rican star completed a season-long loan move to the Seville club on Thursday.

“When I left five years ago always thought of return,” Campbell said at his press conference.

“It’s really exciting to return to the stadium, and when I found out about the interest I told my agent to ensure the deal was done – it feels like I’m coming home.

“There have been a number of new faces into the side this summer and it is exciting for everyone, the club has grown since I was last here.

“In football you never know where you will be from one season to the next and the important thing is to enjoy your football and continue to grow as a footballer.”

The big debate: Who had the best and worst windows?

The transfer window has closed and brought to an end an unprecedented period of spending in the Premier League amounting to £1.4billion.

Manchester United splashed out £75million on Everton’s Romelu Lukaku, while champions Chelsea also bagged themselves a new striker, spending £60m on Alvaro Morata.

Pep Guardiola was busy at the Etihad, bringing in the likes of Benjamin Mendy, Kyle Walker and Bernardo Silva.

However, they failed to seal a deal with Arsenal for Alexis Sanchez after the Gunners were unable to land Thomas Lemar or Julian Draxler.

Here’s what our reporters thought of this summer’s transfer dealings.

Arsenal assured of "100 per cent" commitment from Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez has assured Arsenal he will be “100 per cent” committed - despite the breakdown of his £60m move to Manchester City.

Sanchez and his representatives have been in regular contact throughout the saga and Arsenal are confident that he will return to the club fully focused.

When asked if Sanchez would be committed, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger told beIN Sports, confirmed: “100 per cent.

“Your interest is always to perform. It was not very close. It’s very difficult for me to speak about that because what I want the player to do is now focus on his career, on his season and on Arsenal football club.”

Gunners striker Sanchez told Chile team mates while on international duty that he wanted to join City after they made a late bid to sign him.

But Arsenal, Sanchez and his agent Fernando Felicevich made a pact that if a deal did not happen, he would stay for the final year and be fully committed even if he is set to leave the club on a free transfer next summer.
