Saul eyeing new Atleti contract

Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez says he want to stay at Atletico Madrid - but is eyeing a new deal at the Spanish club,

The all-action midfielder has been linked with a summer move away from Atleti however, with both Manchester United and Barcelona said to be eyeing the Elche-born star.

Saul has a deal with Atleti until 2021, and has sought to play down rumours he could switch in the near future, for the second time in 24 hours.

But he did state he is looking for a new contract, at a time when Atleti are under a transfer embargo.

“I am happy at Atletico and I feel valued but everyone would like to earn a bit more money to be able to help out the family,” Saul told reporters in Poland.

“I’m fine at Atletico. I don’t want to leave. It was hard to get the confidence of Cholo [Diego Simeone] and now that I have it, it would be very difficult to start from zero at another team.

“I don’t see myself outside Atletico, something very surprising would have to happen.”

Lafferty 'could not disrespect Hearts'

Kyle Lafferty insists there is no way he could disrespect Hearts by signing for Edinburgh rivals Hibernian.
The new Jambos frontman has hit back following claims he slighted Neil Lennon by snubbing talks with the Leith boss to clinching his Gorgie move.
The former Rangers striker has penned a two-year deal with the Jambos after marathon four-day negotiations with Tynecastle chiefs and his agent Martin Lyon.
But Lafferty dismissed those claims as he said: “I was at Hearts from Friday then Monday and Tuesday before finally getting the deal done yesterday with my agent.
“I think it would be disrespectful from me towards Hearts to negotiate for four days and then go across the city to speak to Hibs.
“I can probably say my heart did not want to be there. I showed Hearts massive respect by staying here. The chairwoman here Ann Budge wouldn’t let me out the office door anyway.
“She told me to go in there with a cup of tea - then she locked the door.
“The only way out was through the window and I didn’t really fancy jumping down three storeys.”

Dyche eyes Dawson

Burnley boss Sean Dyche is considering a fresh move for Craig Dawson to replace the Everton-bound Michael Keane.

Keane’s £25million transfer to Everton is set to be confirmed by the end of the weekend and Dyche is already working on how he will plug the hole left in the heart of his defence.

Dyche tried to sign Dawson three years ago and feels he may succeed this time because Tony Pulis has been playing the centre-half out of position at right-back.

Dawson, 27, also has one year left on his deal at The Hawthorns and the Baggies may be tempted to cash in on him now.

Dyche likes Dawson because he has plenty of Premier League experience to compensate for Keane’s loss and has clocked up 124 top-flight appearances for West Brom over the last six seasons.

Burnley have also looked at Barnsley’s high-rated Marc Roberts in the past.

Everton want Keane’s move to be completed in time for him to begin pre-season training with his new team-mates at Finch Farm on Monday.

Blues boss Ronald Koeman will be delighted when Keane’s transfer is finally done because he has pursued him for most of his time at Goodison Park.

Defoe set for Sunderland

There are plenty of reports knocking around that Bournemouth have completed their deal to sign Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe.

This move will come as no surprise to seasoned Defoe-watchers, after the England man all-but confirmed it was on the cards last month.

“What I want to do is get my head down and focus on England, the two games, and then after that everyone will know,” Defoe said while on England duty.

“It’s documented about the Bournemouth thing. It’s a club close to my heart anyway, for obvious reasons. I was there as a kid. I think I was 18, on loan from West Ham.

“It’s a special place, with a top manager, and a team that’s done so well from where they’ve come from. A unique story.”

A three-year contract is being mooted, so a gold star goes to his agent.
