Jurgen Klopp watched Emre Can apply the finishing touch to a flowing move, and then turned to the fans and shouted "that is football!" It was always going to be that sort of night at Anfield.

Emotions were running high ahead of the Champions League playoff second leg clash against Hoffenheim , with Klopp's side and their fans absolutely desperate for a return to the top table of European football.

And within 21 minutes of the match, they looked to have secured it.

Already 2-1 up from the first leg, and after goals from Emre Can and Mohamed Salah had made that 4-1, Can grabbed his second of the night after a brilliant flowing move to put Liverpool 3-0 up on the night and 5-1 ahead on aggregate.

In fact, it was a move so good that it caused Klopp to turn to the fans and bellow in celebration.

But just how good was it?

Well we've broken it down into seven stages for you to enjoy.

1. Alberto Moreno ignores his inner monologue for long enough to pass the ball forwards

Liverpool's excitable Spanish left-back starts the move with a clever - yes, clever - pass into Roberto Firmino's path on the halfway line.

Well done, Alberto. Good boy.

2. Roberto Firmino takes control of it in his own half with his back to goal

Remember that for later.

3. Georginio Wijnaldum spots a pass to Sadio Mane that no-one at Anfield - least of all Hoffenheim right-back Pavel Kaderabek - has seen

Look at Pavel there. He's happy, he's in control.

Nothing bad can come of this.

4. As usual, Mane gets to the ball far, far quicker than any of his teammates

Although at least with Salah around now he's got a player who can provide an option, but as usual, he'll wait for everyone to catch up before deciding what to do.

5. Having produced a smart backheel to help set up Emre Can's opener, there was surely no way that Hoffenheim would fall for it if he tried it again, right?

Oh.

6. Firmino (remember when he was on the halfway line a few seconds ago?) appears on the scene, and simply has to produce a fancy chip now. It doesn't matter where it goes. He has no choice.

Luckily, it goes across the penalty area to a man who has the easiest job of the lot...

7. Emre Can finishes it off

And that, as Jurgen would say, is football!
