Olivier Giroud is the Premier League's greatest super sub and the stats are there to prove it.

Not since Manchester United's legendary Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has their been a striker you would prefer to see on your bench than the starting XI.

Javier Hernandez, Daniel Sturridge and Tore Andre-Flo all ticked the boxes to be a late in the game wonder but none hit the goal scoring heights of Solskjaer or Giroud.

Arsene Wenger was tempted to let Giroud leave Arsenal earlier this summer, with Everton and West Ham among the top suitors.

But why would you let a player who has scored 17, 22,19,24 and 16 goals in his five years at the club? Perhaps because he is not seen as a first choice star.

Since the beginning of last season he has scored almost double the goals off the bench that his other super sub wannabes - with his latest coming on the opening day of this season against Leicester.

To Giroud's seven strikes, Manchester City flop Nolito, Chelsea's title winner Michy Batshuayi's four.

Son Heung-Min, Oumar Niasse, Fernando Llorente and Enner Valencia all have three.

Giroud's strength off the bench isn't the classic 'be a pacy striker and power past tired defenders' cliche.

The Frenchman uses his height rather speed, which would hardly test Usain Bolt, to overbear rivals and grab important late goals.

He is 6ft 4ins and dominates the headed goal stats with 26 nods in the past five season.

Only Christian Benteke comes close to him with 23, as known tall footballers Romelu Lukaku, Andy Carroll and Peter Crouch lie in his wake.

Solskjaer won a Champions League with his super sub skills, what will Giroud's bring him?
