Most Manchester United fans seem happy that the club are closing in on the transfer of Romelu Lukaku , but a few are understandably wary.

Because while the big Belgian possesses all of ability to be a huge success at Old Trafford, there does seem to be fairly large question mark placed against him. Namely, can he do it against the big teams?

Last season, 21 of his 25 Premier League goals came against the bottom 13 teams in the league, with plenty often questioning his contribution against the bigger sides.

But how big has that contribution been?

We've looked back at his six years in England, and charted how he's done against the big boys.

The big man couldn't face his parent club when he was on loan at both West Brom and Everton, but did come face-to-face with them after completing his permanent move to the latter.

Notching only one win in those six games, he failed to score a Premier League goal against his former employers in six appearances against them for Everton, although he did net a brace in an FA Cup win in March 2016.

Spurs certainly aren't Lukaku's favourite opponents, with no wins picked up against them in eight league appearances, as he's lost four and drawn four.

His only goal against them came in March's 3-2 defeat at White Hart Lane.

Lukaku v Manchester City: 10 games, 4 goals, 1 win

He got a League Cup goal in a January 2016 tie against Manchester City at Goodison, but in the league Lukaku's strikes against City have come in pairs.

He scored both home and away for Everton against his potential new city rivals in both the 2013/14 and 2016/17 seasons, but the latter game was the only one he won - a 4-0 hammering at Goodison in January this year.

The big man has been a regular scorer against Liverpool down the years, but his only successes against Everton's rivals came when he was on loan at West Brom during 2012/13. Steve Clarke's Baggies did the league double over Brendan Rodgers' Reds, with Lukaku scoring in both games.

He's never beaten Liverpool when in the blue of Everton though, although he did score a brace in a 3-3 Merseyside derby draw in 2013, and then again in another Goodison draw two years later.

Lukaku v Arsenal: 11 games, 2 goals, 2 wins

The big man has been on the losing side against the Gunners seven times down the years, only winning twice - with Everton in 2014 and then again in December last year.

He scored in the first of those matches - a 3-0 win at Goodison - and also netted a penalty in Everton's 3-1 defeat at the Emirates on the final day of the season just gone.

Lukaku has gone through 10 scoreless games against his likely new employers, but he made a big impact in the one game he did score in.

The Belgian famously netted a hat-trick in a remarkable 5-5 draw between West Brom and United in Sir Alex Ferguson's final game as a manager in 2013, with his only three wins against them coming in a run of four games across the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons when with Everton.

So the final reckoning is 57 games, 15 goals and 9 wins... not great, is it?

Much of that can probably be put down to West Brom and Everton's struggles to beat the bigger sides, of course, but Manchester United are sure to want his record against the best to improve if they do end up shelling out £75m on him.

Your move, Romelu.
