Wayne Shaw arrives at Wembley for his FA hearing

Former Sutton goalkeeper Wayne Shaw has been banned from football for two months and fined £375 for breaching FA betting rules.

The 45-year-old has been punished for intentionally influencing a football betting market and bringing the game into disrepute after eating a pie during the non-league club's FA Cup tie with Arsenal in February.

Shaw was seen eating a pie on the bench during the game, which sparked a Gambling Commission probe after Sun Bets opened a market on the player carrying out the act.

Shaw appeared at Wembley on Wednesday for an FA hearing and was hoping to put "a long seven months" behind him after admitting it had had a negative impact on his and his family's lives.

He told Sky Sports News: "I can't believe it. It has affected my whole life. I just need to move on now. Hopefully today will be the end of it."

Shaw, however, refused to acknowledge if he regretted his actions and denied the charge in the FA hearing.

Shaw resigned from playing for Sutton immediately after the incident, which happened as they lost their dream fifth-round tie 2-0 to the Gunners.

The club's manager Paul Doswell told Sky Sports News the day after: "I woke up this morning and a mini-crisis had started. We realised the implications of what had happened, with regards to the FA and the Gambling Commission, and unfortunately Wayne has resigned from his position on the back of that.

"For a club that holds such great values and ethics, and I think we have conducted ourselves superbly through this cup run, it is very unfortunate. He is a very good friend of mine but it is something which the board, in particular, found unacceptable."
