Premier League grades: Stuart Pearce provides his verdict

Alexis Sanchez of Arsenal and Emre Can of Liverpool

Stuart Pearce grades the weekend performances in the Premier League after impressive wins for Liverpool and Chelsea.

Jurgen Klopp's side thrashed Arsenal 4-0 at Anfield on Nissan Super Sunday, while Chelsea confidently dispatched top-six hopefuls Everton 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

There were also strong showings from newly-promoted Newcastle and Huddersfield, while concerns remain over Crystal Palace and West Ham after damaging defeats.

Here's what Pearce had to say...

Premier League results

Bournemouth 1-2 Man City Man Utd 2-0 Leicester
Huddersfield 0-0 Southampton WBA 1-1 Stoke
Crystal Palace 0-2 Swansea Chelsea 2-0 Everton
Newcastle 3-0 West Ham Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal
Watford 0-0 Brighton Spurs 1-1 Burnley

Liverpool - A+

It doesn't get much better than this. They thrashed a top-six rival, scored four goals and kept a clean sheet. It was the perfect performance.

Newcastle - A

A superb result and a great performance. They had started the season a little slowly so they will be delighted to get up and running.

Watch all the goals from the Premier League this weekend

Manchester United - A-

They were expected to win - they always are at home - but it was still a good display by Jose Mourinho's side. They could have scored a few more but it was another solid defensive performance, a clean sheet and they are looking the team to stop at the moment.

Chelsea - A-

It was pretty impressive from Chelsea against a team that many thought could cause them a few problems at Stamford Bridge. The hosts bossed the game from start to finish, it was a good team performance and another goal for new signing Alvaro Morata. That is good news for Antonio Conte.

Burnley - B+

A fantastic point away from home. Burnley have been down to London twice now this season and picked up four points, a brilliant return. They will be absolutely delighted. They stayed in the game at Wembley and their new signing Chris Wood popped up with the equaliser, that's always nice for the manager.

Watch the best saves from the Premier League

Swansea - B+

It was a fantastic result against one of their main competitors in the division. They were fairly comfortable for large parts of the match as well - that was perhaps more down to Palace's poor play than Swansea' attacking threat - but the performance and result will please Paul Clement. Tammy Abraham looks like a very shrewd loan addition.

Manchester City - B+

They played reasonably well but the sense is they got out of jail a little bit with Raheem Sterling's late goal. Pep Guardiola will take the victory and move on. Not a great performance but job done.

Brighton - B

It's a tricky one to assess for Brighton. On the one hand they will just be happy to get their first Premier League point but it's also a big missed opportunity. The clean sheet and an away point is positive overall but it could have been even better when you consider they had a man advantage from the 24th minute.

Tottenham - B-

They should have won the game. There were lots of missed chances to wrap the match up - Harry Kane had a few - but they just couldn't get it done. In the end they were punished for that inefficiency.

The Premier League moment of the round

Huddersfield - B-

Another clean sheet for Huddersfield, who played well against a tough Southampton outfit. They will be happy with the draw, coupled with their early victories. It adds up to an excellent start to the season.

Southampton - B-

Southampton were playing a Huddersfield team in good form and it was a decent point to pick up on the road. They didn't concede - that's two clean sheets from three games - and they had a couple of chances to snatch a victory.

Stoke - B-

Stoke were worth a draw at The Hawthorns. West Brom have been in good form so Mark Hughes will take the point on the road. It's certainly a better result for the visitors.

West Brom - C+

Once West Brom get their nose in front at home you expect them to get the win. They are difficult to break down and the mix-up for Peter Crouch's leveller was an uncharacteristic defensive error. That's cost them a valuable three points.

Leicester - C+

They played reasonably well and kept themselves in with a shout for most of the match. But they were just outgunned by a better side, although Craig Shakespeare will be disappointed with the way they switched off for Marcus Rashford's opener.

Watford - C

Marco Silva will be happy to get a point and a clean sheet considering they were playing most of the game with 10 men. Still, Brighton at home would be a match they marked as a win so to just get one point will be disappointing.

Everton - C

Ronald Koeman will be disappointed, not just with the scoreline, but with the manner of the performance too. It was a comfortable Chelsea victory. Everton won't have expected to win but probably would have liked to make it much more difficult for Conte's side.

Bournemouth - C-

It was another defeat and it's been a slow start to the season for the Cherries. At home they will be expecting to pick up points but Manchester City is a tough test and they were in the game for much of it. To concede so late was a hammer blow but there were positives for Eddie Howe.

Crystal Palace - D-

They just cannot get going this season. They will have targeted three points against a Swansea team they will probably finish close to at the end of the campaign but to get beaten so easily was poor.

West Ham - D-

A poor performance and a poor result against a team that will be around them come the end of the season. To be fair, Joe Hart's display probably kept the score respectable. Three away games is never helpful at the beginning of a new campaign. It makes it difficult to build up confidence within the squad.

Graeme Souness assesses Arsenal's display against Liverpool - and it is not pretty...

Arsenal - E

A really bad performance. A lot of criticism has come Arsene Wenger's way in regards to his tactical awareness and there are question marks throughout the team. You have to give more than they did.
