Romelu Lukaku scored twice on his debut and says it was a promising start to the season after Manchester United's 4-0 victory over West Ham at Old Trafford

Romelu Lukaku has called his debut performance for Man Utd "a dream come true" after he netted twice during a 4-0 victory against West Ham.

All eyes were on the striker after his big-money move to Old Trafford this summer, and he did not disappoint as he struck either side of the break during United's Premier League curtain raiser.

Lukaku spoke to Sky Sports after the game and said while he had a 'dream' debut, he was just pleased that United picked up the three points.

"Yes of course [it was a dream debut]. To play in front of such a crowd for such a great club, it is a dream come true but the most important thing was the win," the Belgian said.

"The win was good with four goals and a clean sheet. We started very well so we have to keep working hard.

"When you play for Manchester United, everybody has a job. Mine is to keep the ball and to score the goals for the team. The team did a good job today, everybody created a lot of chances and we scored a lot of goals so it is promising.

"The fans want to see attractive football and we need to stick to it and try to create as much as we can, defend well as a team and I think that's what we did so the crowd was really pleased today.

"It is just the start and we need to keep working. The manager has said that there is a plan and we need to try and follow it and hopefully it will take us somewhere."

Another Man Utd debutant was Nemanja Matic, who won the Man of the Match award, and he was hopeful that the result would give the side confidence for next weekend's game against Swansea, live on Sky Sports Premier League.

"It was a very important game for us to start off with the three points against a very good side," the midfielder told Sky Sports.

"I'm happy for the team because we started well and in the next game, we will play with more confidence. I don't want to say it will be easier but we will be more confident."
