Alexis Sanchez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan were both absent on Saturday as Arsenal and Manchester United returned to Premier League action.
Sanchez was left out of Arsenal's matchday squad for Crystal Palace's visit to the Emirates, while Mkhitaryan missed the trip to Turf Moor to take on Burnley.
Jose Mourinho had already confirmed Mkhitaryan would miss the game in his pre-match press conference, but Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger elected to wait until Saturday to omit Sanchez from his squad.
United and Arsenal are edging closer to a swap deal which will see Sanchez leave the Gunners for Old Trafford, with Mkhitaryan heading the other way to North London.
The pair reported for training as usual at their respective clubs on Friday while negotiations continue.
Sky Sports News understands an agreement is yet to be reached between all parties in the deal, including some of the representatives attached to it.
Arsenal are also discussing a move for another player, believed to be Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
