Everton are waiting to find out the extent of the hamstring injury picked up by Ross Barkley in training.

The England midfielder has just returned from a groin operation and pulled up in training on after returning to the first-team squad on Monday.

Barkley has told Everton he will not sign a new contact, which is due to expire within the next 12 months, and Toffees boss Ronald Koeman has said he would be sold if he did not commit to new terms.

Tottenham have made him their top midfield target this summer, while Chelsea also hold an interest in the 23-year-old, according to newspaper reports.

The Toffees are yet to receive any offers for Barkley this summer and boss Koeman warned interested clubs that they will not simply be able to bag a cut-price deal for the player on deadline day.

"No, of course not," Koeman said, when asked if Everton would allow Barkley to leave cheaply.
