The European transfer window may only have been closed for a month, but clubs will already have an idea where they still need to strengthen. Our friends at Football Whispers have scoured the media across Europe for the latest news and transfer rumours.

Spain

Chelsea and Liverpool are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Javier Pastore. The player will be available for around £26m in January as the French club look to move a few players on following a summer of lavish spending. (Gol)

Barcelona are the latest club to be linked with Bayer Leverkusen's Julian Brandt. The Catalan side have sent scouts to watch the player, a former Liverpool transfer target, and could make a move in the summer, by which time the player will only have one year left on his contract. The 21-year-old German star could fetch around €70m. (Marca)

Germany

The big story on the back of German papers this morning is the appointment of Jupp Heynckes as the new manager of Bayern Munich. The 72-year-old won the treble in his last season at the club in 2013, before being succeeded by Pep Guardiola. Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann had been the favourites for the job, but Heynckes' appointment could suggest a short-term solution before the club move for the latter in the summer. (Bild)

Serge Gnabry wants to return to England, but not before he's had a go at getting into the Bayern Munich side. The former Arsenal player is currently on loan at Hoffenheim from Bayern, and if his current boss Nagelsmann also moves to the Bavarian giants in the summer, he could well get his wish to play there before returning to English shores. Italy

Inter Milan will make a move for Everton and West Ham transfer target Theo Walcott in January, according to the Italian media. The English attacker could be allowed the leave the club, and what's more, the 28-year-old may seek a move after only playing 45 minutes of league football so far this season. With a World Cup on the horizon, he'll want to be playing more regularly to secure England selection. (Calciomercato)

Other

Michy Batshuayi has ended speculation linking him with a future move away from Chelsea, revealing that he is happy with the current situation at the club. "I don't want to leave during the next transfer window, because we're going to play a lot of games and I will certainly get an opportunity," he said. The Belgian is pleased to be second choice at the club after they failed to sign Fernando Llorente at the end of the transfer window. (DH, Belgium)
