Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hit out at his England counterpart Gareth Southgate over his use of Jordan Henderson last weekend in Lithuania.
The Reds captain has had his problems with injury this year, missing the last three months of last season with a heel problem, and Klopp felt he should not have played all 90 minutes on a plastic pitch in Vilnius.
The match was England's final World Cup Qualifier, but Southgate's men were already assured of a place at Russia 2018 and played out a low-key 1-0 win.
And Klopp said: "England played a friendly on an artificial pitch.
"It was a World Cup Qualifier but they had already qualified.
"I was not happy Hendo was on the pitch to be honest, with all the problems he's had in the past.
"It made no sense. We cannot be involved in this.
"They all make their own decisions. No manager of a national team asked me so far before a game, 'How would you line up?'
"We watch it, we wait until they come back, and we take what we get."
Liverpool welcome Manchester United on Saturday and Klopp agreed that the international break makes preparation awkward, while also pointing out that it will affect both sides.
"Sometimes, I really wish we could have had more time to make preparations for such an important game," said Klopp.
"But it is our job and the same for the other team, so let's go."
