Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has refused to rule out coaching the Spain national team one day.
Benitez, who signed a three-year contract when he took the job in March 2016, decided to stay at the club despite overseeing the club's relegation at the end of the 2016-17 season.
The Spaniard brought Newcastle straight back to the top flight at the first time of asking, and the Magpies have made an impressive start to this campaign.
If Benitez continues his success with Newcastle then that may open the door to the Spain job, according to the Madrid-born coach.
"If I do well here, then maybe. If not, the national team won't happen," he told Marca.
Benitez also spent six hugely successful years managing Liverpool, who he won both the 2005 Champions League and 2006 FA Cup with, before leaving Anfield in 2010.
The former Liverpool manager was also tight-lipped when the subject of a possible return to Merseyside was put to him.
"Let's see what happens in a few years. And the same in relation to Liverpool," Benitez told the Spanish sports daily.
