Danny Welbeck has been pictured in full training with Arsenal for the first time since suffering a knee injury back in May.

The 26-year-old has not featured for Arsenal since sustaining cartilage damage during a 2-2 draw at Manchester City towards the end of last season.

Arsene Wenger's side will be boosted by the return of Welbeck, though the Arsenal boss insisted last week that he would not rush the forward's return.

"Welbeck will need some time," Wenger told reporters. "Of course it's fantastic, because it's like starting a new career, because he has been out for such a long time.

"But I'm a bit cautious with the little setbacks you have when you have been out for a long time. You have to be patient."

Arsene Wenger has an update on the fitness of Danny Welbeck and suggests they won't need to sign any new players in January because of the striker's return

Welbeck has been training since Friday, and was pictured on Wednesday - in what Arsenal described as "full training" - playing alongside other players who did not feature in the 1-0 win over West Brom on Boxing Day.

Wenger's side turn their attentions to a New Year's Day clash against Crystal Palace, live on Sky Sports 1 HD, though it is not yet known whether Welbeck will feature in the squad.
