Arsenal are hopeful Aaron Ramsey will not be absent for too long with the calf injury that is set to keep him out of Saturday's clash with Chelsea, live on Sky Sports.
Ramsey limped out of Tuesday's 2-1 defeat by Watford with a calf strain, an injury confirmed by boss Arsene Wenger after the match at the Emirates Stadium.
The Wales international is waiting on full results of a scan on the injury, but Sky Sports News HQ understands the prognosis is that it is not expected to be a long-term injury.
Ramsey stopped as soon as he felt pain in his calf, rather than carrying on playing which could have led to a tear and a lengthy absence.
He missed more than two months with a hamstring injury suffered on the opening day of the Premier League season and also missed most of December.
Arsenal are already struggling in midfield, with Granit Xhaka suspended, Mohamed Elneny still on Africa Cup of Nations duty with finalists Egypt and Santi Cazorla sidelined by injury.
Ramsey's injury could mean another central midfield start for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who received backing from Wenger to blossom in that role after replacing Ramsey on Tuesday.
"He could perform in big games there and that means his real qualities are there," Wenger said. "I always thought so.
"He has so many qualities which make you think he can play on the flanks because he's powerful, has pace and can dribble. But the position where he really looks like blossoming is in the middle. I like his game."
Arsenal have also refuted claims that players were given two days off after the defeat by Watford to aid their preparations for the trip to Stamford Bridge.
Players did their normal post-match warm down on Wednesday and Arsenal said there had been no change to the normal players schedule.
