The Gunners were thrashed 4-0 at Liverpool on August 27, four days before the transfer window closed.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Kieran Gibbs have now left the Emirates, while Alexis Sanchez will remain at the club until at least January, despite being linked with a move away from north London.

Arsenal are currently on a run of five wins and a draw, at Chelsea, compared with one win in four before the transfer window closed.

Arsenal will look to maintain their exceptional record against newly-promoted teams when Brighton visit the Emirates on Sunday

Speaking ahead of Sunday's home game with Brighton, Wenger said: "It feels like a different team. You see the way we play football.

"You need to have a united group to do that. The weight of the transfer market was much heavier than internationals.

"I put [our improvement] down to the fact that we realised what we produced was not good enough. But that was a special day for us: it was just before the transfer window closed and just before an international break.

"Overall we stayed united and responded on the pitch."

Despite speculation surrounding his future ahead of the signing of a new two-year deal, Wenger insists he remains fresh and is enjoying his job.

"Mentallly I am very fresh. I focus on the next game," he added.

"I love football and the way we want to play football so I am always motivated by that. I believe in human beings as well: it is not that we are bad for one day."
