Ronald Koeman insists Everton remain close to signing Gylfi Sigurdsson and talks with Swansea have not broken down.
The two clubs had hit a deadlock in discussions, according to Sky sources, but both managers remain confident a resolution will be found before the final countdown to Deadline Day.
Paul Clement has left Sigurdsson out of his Swansea squad to face Southampton this weekend, and Koeman is hopeful the transfer will be wrapped up soon.
"I heard some rumours it has broke down," Koeman said at his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Stoke on Saturday.
"That is not the case, we are still in negotiations. It is always a game between the selling club and buying club, but we are close and let's hope we get an agreement as soon as possible.
"Soon is okay, I spoke about really soon and it was last weekend. Let's wait. Let's see. We are not in a hurry."
Earlier on Thursday, Swans boss Clement suggested the hold up in the deal still comes down to a failure to agree on a price.
"The situation is our club has a valuation of the player, the other club has another valuation of the player and the two have not met," Clement said. "The objective is that at some point the clubs will meet [in valuation]."
Koeman admitted he is still looking to fill the void left by Romelu Lukaku's £90m move to Manchester United, despite bringing in the likes of Davy Klaassen, Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney.
"We're still working on targets, and that's difficult because replacing Lukaku is difficult," he added. "I don't say impossible but 25 goals is a lot and we need to find other ways and productivity by other players. We'd like to bring some more in."
