David Unsworth says he has been given no timescale or targets for his role as Everton's caretaker manager.

The Under-23 coach will take charge of Wednesday's Carabao Cup match at Chelsea following the sacking of Ronald Koeman.

Unsworth revealed at his pre-match press conference he wants the role permanently.

The former Everton defender, who made 350 appearances for the club, says he has spoken to chairman Bill Kenwright but the pair have not discussed short or long-term targets.

He said: "The chairman has just asked me to take it and he's going to talk to me every day and we will discuss it all the time.

"There has been no points total or number of matches, I am just honoured to have been asked to take the team Hopefully there is a run of games in which results and performances will probably dictate that."

The 44-year-old says he is reluctant to make big changes to the side with limited time at his disposal.

David Unsworth has been named as Everton's caretaker manager, but does he deserve a chance on a permanent basis?

After the trip to Stamford Bridge, Everton travel to Leicester and Lyon in the space of five days.

Unsworth added: "Big changes? No. Maybe tweaks here and there. I need to spend as much time as I can with players on the training ground or in meetings to get my point across and hopefully they take on board that information and produce it in games.

"I have a set of values and a way of playing I want to take into the first-team environment. Sometimes a change of manager gives the squad a lift - sometimes it doesn't - but I won't change what I believe in.

"I believe the game should be played in a certain way and I know Evertonians want it played in a certain way."
