Hugo Lloris is confident Tottenham can make Wembley a place for opponents to fear this season.

Tottenham, who will play at the national stadium this term as the 'new' White Hart Lane takes shape, face Chelsea in their first home Premier League game of the campaign, live on Sky Sports Premier League on Super Sunday.

There has been plenty of talk surrounding Spurs' temporary home, given their poor form in Europe at Wembley last season, but Lloris says they must create an atmosphere to make it harder for visitors.

He told Sky Sports: "You need to repeat and repeat. It's difficult to compare Wembley and White Hart Lane, where Tottenham played for over 100 years. It's an historic place, for all the Spurs fans and players.

"But the only thing we can do is to walk out, get prepared in our mind, and to build a confidence through results and performances. I am quite confident we will reach the level that we want at Wembley.

"I can understand that for the opponent team and fans it's a big place to come, but we need to make this place hard for the opponent, like at White Hart Lane.

"White Hart Lane was a special place for all the fans, the players, and even more last season because we finished unbeaten.

"But our head and minds are focused on Wembley now, we know it is a transition before the new stadium comes next season, and we will do our best to make this our own stadium, create a real atmosphere."

Spurs' clashes against Chelsea in recent years have been fiery, and despite the champions losing 3-2 against Burnley on the opening day of the season, Lloris says Antonio Conte's side will be looking to bounce back against their rivals.

"Obviously it's a bad start for them, but they're the champions, they have a lot of pride, and for sure they will come to Wembley to bounce back.

"It will be tough for us, and we need to make sure everybody is ready for that fight, in our minds and our bodies, to prepare for this game in the best way.

"We need to start well at Wembley, it's very important."

Spurs finished second last season after finishing third in 2015/16, and having spent far less than other top six clubs in the summer, their critics are predicting them to fall short again this term.

Lloris recognises that the top flight is becoming more competitive than ever, but says Spurs are growing stronger each year.

"The Premier League is getting even more difficult every season, all the club have the power to attract great players. That's why it is an exciting time to play in the Premier League and face so many competitive teams.

"The key is to be consistent in your performance, and we will try, like the last two seasons, to compete again.

"Every season I feel the team [Tottenham] is becoming stronger and stronger."
