Tottenham are discussing a potential deal to sign Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, according to Sky sources.

The 24-year-old is a similar profile to Spurs top midfield target Ross Barkley and has been offered out by Barcelona, who want to sell some players, ahead of the transfer deadline.

Spurs remain interested in Barkley but have been put off making a move for him in this window due to a serious injury.

The England midfielder had surgery on a groin problem earlier this summer and it is understood he would be unable to complete a medical. He has also been of interest to Chelsea.

Reports have indicated that West Ham have also been interested in a loan deal for Gomes.

The Portugal international made 17 La Liga starts for Barca last season after a move from Valencia but struggled to sparkle in their renowned midfield.

Gomes began his career at Benfica and has 25 caps for Portugal since a 2014 debut.
