Inter Milan are in talks with Manchester City over a loan deal for defender Eliaquim Mangala, according to Sky sources.

The 26-year-old France international has not played a competitive game for City under Pep Guardiola, and was sent out on loan to Valencia last season.

He played in pre-season but his profile does not fit with Guardiola's ball-playing centre-backs, with the Catalonian having signed John Stones from Everton last summer, and the club are open to Mangala moving on.

City are hoping to replace the former Porto player, who was signed during Manuel Pellegrini's reign in 2014 in a £32million deal, with West Brom's Jonny Evans.

Inter have been in the market for a centre-half as they look to reestablish themselves among the top clubs in Serie A and they have also been interested in Arsenal's Shkodran Mustafi, according to Sky in Italy.

But Gunners boss Arsene Wenger said on Thursday: "No I don't expect (him to leave). It's difficult for me to talk about any individual cases."

So it appears Inter have turned to Mangala, who made 30 La Liga starts for Valencia last season, and scored twice. He began his career at Belgian side Standard Liege before signing for Porto in 2011.
