West Ham boss Slaven Bilic admitted Manchester United were much better in every aspect of the game after they lost 4-0 at Old Trafford

Slaven Bilic says he "expected more" from his West Ham side after they fell to a 4-0 defeat at Manchester United in their opening Premier League game.

The Hammers offered little in the way of a response to a dominant United side, with a Romelu Lukaku double plus goals from Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba sealing their victory.

West Ham have now have lost the most opening day games in Premier League history (11) and while Bilic admits that the hosts were the better side, he was disappointed by his side's display.

"I expected more. I have to admit they were much better in every aspect, they were better in the air, on the floor and in 50-50 challenges. We knew they had a strong side but I expected us to do better," he told Sky Sports.

"We started OK, then it was missing, we were much slower than them. They have pace and quality but we didn't want to get exposed in one against one situations. We wanted to create situations that were two against one in our favour, but we didn't have that a lot today.

"We were too deep in the first half and they had too much time. It was not good enough. We knew they had a threat from set pieces and we had been practising three days but if you are not close to players like Lukaku you can't expect anything better than what we got."

West Ham are currently bottom of the Premier League table after the opening round of matches, and take on Southampton next weekend as they look to get their first points on the board.

"It's very hard to find any positives when you lose 4-0 but you have to get up and be ready for the next game," Bilic added.

"We have to train, be more focused and we have to be more determined and focused in the game on every situation. When you play Manchester United you have to beat them in that department, but they were better in the 'dirty work' situations than us."
