Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam has backed David Moyes to be a success as West Ham manager

David Moyes is the ideal man to take over at West Ham, according to Stoke City and Scotland midfielder Charlie Adam.

Moyes was confirmed as the club's new manager on Tuesday morning.

The former Manchester United, Everton, Sunderland, Preston and Real Sociedad boss succeeds Slaven Bilic in the role after the Croatian was relieved of his duties on Monday.

And speaking on The Debate, Adam backed the 54-year-old Scot to be a success at the London Stadium, despite the club currently languishing in 18th place in the Premier League.

"They have gone with the business decision between David Gold, David Sullivan and Karren Brady, that if they did not change now, they could be under severe pressure and struggle to get out of the relegation zone," said Adam.

"But Moyes coming in is a fantastic appointment. He will learn from his past experiences at Sunderland, Real Sociedad and even the Man Utd job. He will get criticised for that, but I felt he was harshly done by at United.

"I have been lucky enough to meet him a few times over the last couple of years, and recently as only last Wednesday I met him at a game - Preston against Aston Villa - and he had a real buzz about him.

"He was excited, looked fresh and ready to go and he knows it is a big challenge for him, but what a wonderful opportunity at West Ham."

It is Moyes' extensive top-flight experience, however, that makes him the ideal candidate to take over the east London club, says Adam.

"There is nobody who knows the league as good as Moyes, he has that experience of the Premier League, so I think that is why it is a good appointment," he said.

"Let's get to the end of the season - I know it is still another 20-odd games, but it is now about steadying the ship, stop the rot and build to the end of the season. And then go from there."
