Marco Silva has revealed Watford beat Ajax to the acquisition of Richarlison - and that "everything can happen" in the Brazilian attacker's career.

The under-20 international joined Marco Silva's outfit during the summer transfer window from Fluminese and despite his inexperience in the English domestic top flight has been an integral reason behind Watford's strong start to the campaign.

Richarlison scored his second Premier League goal of the season to secure a valuable 2-1 victory over Swansea at the Liberty Stadium - the first time the Hornets have won three consecutive away games in the top division.

Silva confirmed he is a keen admirer of the player, and fought off competition from the Dutch giants to secure his signature in the summer.

Marco Silva has revealed Watford beat Ajax to the acquisition of Richarlison - and that 'everything can happen' in the Brazilian attacker's career.

"He's a player we identified and analysed in June in Brazil and many times we watched him, we analysed him really well," said Silva.

"I spoke to our board to see what we could do to buy the player. Of course he's not a cheap player but I said we had to buy this player.

"When I knew the player was ready to travel to sign with Ajax I did everything to stop that happening.

"I believe in the player and I believe he will help us. We need to be calm with him because he is 20 years old but he is a player who everything can happen in his career.

"We aren't putting pressure on him, we just want him to continue showing what he has done so far and keep working hard."
