Marco Silva reacts to Watford's 3-2 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park.

Marco Silva felt referee Graham Scott's decision to award Everton a penalty in injury-time was harsh.

Watford lost 3-2 to Everton on Sunday despite being two goals up by the 65th minute. Goals from Oumar Niasse, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and a Leighton Baines penalty secured a dramatic comeback victory for the hosts.

With Watford in control for large periods of the match, Silva was frustrated by the manner of the defeat. In particular, Silva was left annoyed that Everton were awarded a late spot-kick when Jose Holebas appeared to slip over and into Aaron Lennon in injury time.

"It's a harsh decision," the Portuguese manager told Sky Sports after the match.

"It's not even easy for the referee [to make a decision]. Holebas didn't even want to take the ball, he followed the player."

Everton 3-2 Watford

Defeat for Watford was their third in a row in the Premier League but the Hertfordshire club still remain ninth in the Premier League table. Silva retains the belief Watford can return to winning ways.

He added: "It's disappointing for everybody and the players in the dressing room. But this is football and you have to keep working and going. If we performed like that again we'll be in a good way.

"We have some young players and lots of experience so we have to be different in some moments.

"In that moment [after Niasse's goal] we respect they tried to give everything but it was more our mistake to let them back in the game again.

"When they scored to make it 2-1 we gave them that chance to score and come back and believe. Although everybody thought we controlled the match, it was the difference in the detail which made the difference in that one moment."
