As a result, Pulis has revealed he may have to revert away from his tried and trusted transfer strategy in a bid to bring bodies to The Hawthorns before Thursday's deadline.

"We've got money to spend from what we made last year, and hopefully we will be doing that before Deadline Day," he told Sky Sports.

"We need to do that. But we need to pick the right ones.

"The problem we have now is that the English market is getting even tougher. So we might have to take a chance on a couple of players from abroad, when you do that it's a risk.

"When I sign in England, I speak to everybody about the players, find out what they are like as players and individuals within a group and by themselves - that has always been a big part of my selection process.

A long-term advocate of the transfer window closing before the start of the season, Pulis has had to contend with interest in key members of his squad this summer, notably Jonny Evans.

However, having won all three of their league and cup games this season, the manner in which the Baggies have started the campaign has drawn added praise from Pulis.

Tony Pulis says there has been no more contact from Manchester City over Baggies defender Jonny Evans

"There is always this void until the window closes that can be difficult for all clubs," he added.

"There is always speculation surrounding people - we're talking about bringing people in and there's been talk of players leaving us.

"It's not just the football you have to deal with at the start of the season, you have to deal with the window.
