Daryl Janmaat and Abdoulaye Doucoure scored with long-range strikes as Watford comfortably beat Southampton 2-0 at St Mary's.
An energetic Watford stifled the life out of the hosts, who have now not scored in three of their four games under Mauricio Pellegrino this season.
Doucoure crashed home from 20 yards late in the first half after Saints failed to clear from a loose ball to go into the break with the advantage their dominance deserved.
Chances were few and far between in the second half with substitute Janmaat firing in a second from distance as Saints goalkeeper Fraser Forster struggled to react.
Full-back Alves Cedric had Southampton's only shot in anger of the game, firing straight at Heurelho Gomes in stoppage time.
