Cedric Soares has been ruled out of Southampton's Premier League game against Arsenal on Sunday with a hamstring injury.

The Portuguese full-back, who was named Southampton's player of the month for November, will miss the Gunners' visit to St Mary's due to a hamstring injury suffered in the recent 2-1 loss to Manchester City.

"We've got Cedric injured," said Pellegrino. "He won't be ready for Sunday. He is the only one [missing] in the squad."

Long-term absentee Josh Sims returned to training for the first time in seven months on Friday and the Saints manager pleased to have more competition within his squad as a result.

Speaking about the 20-year-old's return, Pellegrino said: "After seven or eight months it is not easy to come back, but he was involved in training over the last few days.

"Hopefully he can recover because he's a young lad, a homegrown player, and the more players ready to compete the better it is for us."
