Prutton's EFL predictions: Sunderland and Norwich to struggle?

Prutton's Predictions

David Prutton returns with his latest round of predictions ahead of this weekend's Sky Bet EFL matches.

But who is our resident expert tipping for victory? Read on to find out...

Sheffield Wednesday v Nottingham Forest, Saturday 5.15pm - Live on Sky Sports Football

Two of my old teams meet at Hillsborough and it should be an intriguing clash. Both would have been disappointed with their results before the break as Sheffield Wednesday drew with Burton and Nottingham Forest lost to Leeds.

I think there's more expectation on Wednesday, and they look like less than the sum of their parts at the moment. Both managers will set their sides up to win, but I can't split them. Score draw.

Prutton predicts: 2-2 with Gary Hooper to score first (55/1 with Sky Bet)

Aston Villa v Brentford, Saturday 3pm

It's looking like it might be a tough season for Brentford, especially after losing Jota on Deadline Day. Many tipped Dean Smith's side as dark horses but they'll need to turn their form around quickly.

Aston Villa's away struggles continued against Bristol City last time out, but they should be too strong at Villa Park and this feels like a home win to me.

Fulham v Cardiff, Saturday 3pm

Can Cardiff go to Craven Cottage and bully Fulham? They got a great win at Wolves a couple weeks ago by doing a bit of a job on them and Neil Warnock's side have been fantastic so far.

Slavisa Jokanovic hasn't looked too happy so far this season and his side haven't got off to the start many expected them to. I think Cardiff can snatch another win here to keep up their perfect run.

Leeds v Burton, Saturday 3pm

Leeds are riding the crest of a wave, going into the break after a great win at Nottingham Forest. They've been expansive and exciting and on paper this is a home win for me - despite the fact both of their games at home so far have been goalless draws.

Burton looked in a bit of trouble after three games but have had some good results and Nigel Clough continues to do a great job. I can't see them leaving Elland Road with a result though.

Prutton predicts: 2-1 (15/2 with Sky Bet)

Norwich v Birmingham, Saturday 3pm

It's been a bit of a nightmare start for Daniel Farke so far. It's too early to be worried about their league position, but he never would have wanted to see his side in the bottom three. He'll be happy to be back at home, though, after shipping four goals in consecutive away games.

It will be interesting to see how Birmingham get on now with all their new arrivals. If Jota hits the ground running then Harry Redknapp's side could soon find themselves heading in the right direction.

QPR v Ipswich, Saturday 3pm

Ipswich's fine start came to an abrupt end before the break as they lost at home to Fulham. Mick McCarthy is realistic though and he wouldn't have let his players get carried away even before that result.

Ian Holloway would have been hoping for more at Cardiff last time than throwing away a lead to lose and there should be a reaction at Loftus Road. I fancy an entertaining draw.

Prutton predicts: 2-2 (14/1 with Sky Bet)

Sunderland v Sheffield United, Saturday 3pm

Sunderland started pretty well but have gone off the rails a little bit in their last couple of games and they were awful at Barnsley last time out. Simon Grayson has got a big job on his hands and he'll really be realising that now.

Sheffield United have lost both their away games so far, but Chris Wilder's side will be full of confidence and I think they'll have no fear whatsoever and could pull off something of a shock here.

Northampton v Doncaster, Saturday 3pm

Northampton are well and truly rooted to the foot of League One and that's why they've brought in Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. He'll get a response because of his character and it's a great chance for him to rebuild after his time at QPR.

Doncaster will be happy with their start to the season following promotion, but Darren Ferguson will want more than that. That being said, I think this is where Northampton's losing run comes to an end.

Prutton predicts: 1-0 (17/2 with Sky Bet)

Forest Green v Exeter, Saturday 3pm

Forest Green maybe could have picked up a couple more points than they have done so far and they won't want to make it three league defeats in a row.

But this looks like an away win to me, even though it's never that straightforward in League Two. Exeter are flying at the moment and I can't see their good start ending here.
