Swansea manager Paul Clement felt Manchester United thoroughly deserved their win

Paul Clement admits Manchester United thoroughly deserved to beat his Swansea side 2-0 on Tuesday evening.

Goals in either half from Jesse Lingard gave United the win in the Carabao Cup last 16 at the Liberty Stadium, the second a superb header from just inside the box.

But Clement was disappointed the United man was able to get a header away from that range, and said his side must do better in those situations.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho was pleased with the performances of Scott McTominay and Axel Tuanzebe

He told Sky Sports: "The first goal is disappointing from a defensive point of view. We had the ball, gave it away in a bad area, and then we were exposed. Lovely little ball around the corner and a good finish.

"I'm disappointed with the second goal also, because I wouldn't say Lingard is well known for getting into the box and heading it, and our two centre-halves are in there, so we have to do better there.

"But we played some good football at times, we had our fair share of chances, but Manchester United deserved to win.

"The feeling after the game is never good after you've lost, and we played better than we have been, but they've got real quality. They deserve to win the game, no question."

Clement was in awe of United's talent after Jose Mourinho brought on Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic late on in the game, and the Swansea manager added that some of his own youngsters on the fringes of their Premier League side will be pushing for a start at Arsenal on Saturday afternoon.

"They are a squad full of talent, some on show from the start in Martial, Rashford, and then subs coming in with Lukaku, Matic, but my players gave a good account of ourselves, good effort, and we have to believe we can pick up some good results in the near future, and keep working at getting better performances.

"There were some players I felt did OK tonight and are going to push for another start on Saturday."
