Tammy Abraham is hoping his England call-up will be the next step on his long journey to becoming a first-team regular at Chelsea.

The striker is currently on loan at Swansea City, where he has scored four goals in 10 games so far this season.

It is that form which has elevated him to the senior England squad for this month's friendly matches against Germany and Brazil.

And Abraham says the ultimate goal is to cement his place at Stamford Bridge, a challenge he accepts will not be a simple one.

"My main focus is Swansea but pushing on, my main target is to be in that Chelsea squad," he said.

Abraham is one of 34 players Chelsea currently have out on loan, and the west London club has been criticised in the past for their failure to show faith in young players.

The 20-year-old acknowledges that the competitive nature of the Premier League will make his journey to Blues recognition harder, but retains a firm confidence in his abilities.

"Of course it will be difficult," he said. "You're playing in one of the best leagues in the world.

"In the Premier League you're playing against some of the best defenders in the world but it's nice for me to have that competition.

"Gareth (Southgate) is a manager who likes to bring up young talent and that gives us a lot of confidence."
