Stoke are likely to be without Xherdan Shaqiri for their Carabao Cup tie against Rochdale at the bet365 Stadium.
The Switzerland international had to be replaced midway through the first half of Saturday's 1-0 win over Arsenal after pulling up with a slight hamstring strain.
Stoke earned their first points of the season on Saturday, beating Arsenal 1-0 at the bet365 Stadium thanks to new signing Jese's goal.
Rochdale, meanwhile, are 21st in League One having taken one point from three games. They beat Mansfield away 1-0 in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
Scans have revealed no serious damage to Shaqiri and it is hoped he will be available for the Premier League trip to West Brom at the weekend.
Erik Pieters is also nursing a knock following the Arsenal game but the left-back could be involved against the Sky Bet League One side.
These sides last met in the League Cup at the first-round stage in 2007/08, with Rochdale winning 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
Rochdale have lost their last two visits to the bet365 Stadium, though their most recent game there was in August 2003, a 2-1 first round League Cup defeat.
Since losing that League Cup tie against Dale in 2007/08, the Potters have progressed from nine of their last 10 League Cup ties with sides from the third and fourth tiers - the exception a 4-3 home defeat to Paolo Di Canio's Swindon Town in the second round in August 2012.
Rochdale have only won away from home against top-flight opposition once in their history (P19 W1 D3 L15) - a 2-0 win over QPR in the League Cup second round in 2011/12.
