Gabriel would face a significant challenge to get back into Arsene Wenger’s starting eleven on his recovery, with Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny firmly established as a first-choice duo and Rob Holding, Per Mertesacker and Nacho Monreal all making convincing cases for the final spot in Arsenal’s back three.
Valencia boss Marcelino said of his interest in Gabriel, Inter Milan’s Jeison Murillo and Porto’s Ivan Marcano: “I think they are possible.
“We’re talking about important players who already know our league. They speak Spanish, and that’s important, so their adaptation would be very quick.”
Gabriel joined Arsenal from Villarreal in January 2015 for £11.3million but has struggled to settle in the Premier League, facing particular challenges in learning English.
