Every Tottenham star is good enough to play for the world's best clubs, according to the club's former director of football Damien Comolli.

Mauricio Pochettino has overseen steady progress for Spurs since his appointment three years ago, spearheaded by the likes of homegrown stars Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

Spurs are without a league title in 56 years, and without any major honour since 1991's FA Cup win, but set a record points tally of 86 and finish of second in the Premier League era last season.

Comolli sympathises with Pochettino's task of improving his squad as title rivals spend record fees, but is confident the manager's starting XI is good enough to mount another challenge.

Comolli told talkSPORT: "The thing with Spurs which is extremely difficult for them to deal with and is probably very frustrating, is that if you take that first XI, it’s so difficult to make it better because every player is fantastic, every player is young.

"There’s was the second youngest team in Europe among the top five teams last season and yet they finished second in the Premier League which is the most competitive league.

He added: "It must be so difficult to find reinforcements for that team. Pound-for-pound, every player could play for almost every club in the world, that’s how good that starting XI is."
