Reiss Nelson has proven himself to be such a prodigious young talent that Mesut Ozil can't believe the young gun is only 17.

Nelson has been one of the stand-out performers during Arsenal's pre-season fixtures, winning the man of the match award in the 2-0 win over Sydney FC that began the Gunners' tour of Australia and China.

The playmaker has spent much of his time in the unfamiliar role of right wing-back in Arsene Wenger's 3-4-3 system but he has shown little sign of being uncomfortable in the demanding position.

Indeed Nelson dovetailed particularly effectively with Ozil in the Sydney win, and Arsenal's record signing was taken aback by the youngster on the right flank.

"Mesut's been talking to me and really helping me through the games," Nelson said. "After the first game he seemed impressed and he couldn't tell how old I was.

"When I told him he was really surprised.

"From there, he has just been telling me loads of stuff that I need to be doing - how to behave on and off the pitch. It's crazy to be getting advice from one of the best players in the world."

Ozil was not the only one impressed by Nelson's first appearance for the Arsenal senior side and the Elephant and Castle-born youngster found himself trending on Twitter after the Gunners' first pre-season game.

"I've got a group chat with my friends, and they were telling me I was blowing up on Twitter," he added. "I don't really look into those things, though - I just look ahead to the next match.

"I just want to keep going and not look too far ahead. I want to keep doing what I'm doing and, if I do get the opportunity to play for the first team I will give everything."
