Tottenham starlet Marcus Edwards has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2020.

Edwards made his first-team debut last season as a substitute in Spurs' 5-0 win over Gillingham in the EFL Cup, and scored five goals in 10 appearances in the Premier League 2.

He also starred in the UEFA European Under-19 Championship for eventual winners England, often coming off the bench late on to change games.

The 18-year old has been at Tottenham since he was eight years old, and will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of fellow academy graduates Harry Winks and Josh Onomah to force his was into Mauricio Pochettino's first-team plans.

Edwards first came to the attention of many football fans last year when Pochettino likened him to five-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi.

“His qualities, it’s only looks, his body and the way that he plays, remember a little bit from the beginning of Messi,” the Spurs manager said.
