Nemanja Matic has admitted the opportunity to play for Jose Mourinho again was the main reason he decided to leave Chelsea for Premier League rivals Manchester United.

The midfielder completed a £40million move from the champions to Mourinho's side on Monday afternoon after he signed a three-year deal with the Red Devils, with the option to extend for a further year.

Matic had two spells at Chelsea, with the second of those seeing the Serbian win the Premier League title under Mourinho in 2015 before he went on to help the west London side capture the top-flight crown under Antonio Conte last season.

Mourinho was the manager who brought Matic back to Stamford Bridge from Benfica in 2014, and the midfielder has now revealed he couldn't turn down the chance to work with the Portuguese coach again.

Speaking to United's website following the completion of his transfer, the 28-year-old said: "I am delighted to have joined Manchester United.

"To work with Jose Mourinho once again was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.

"I have enjoyed my time at Chelsea and would like to thank the club and the fans for their support. I cannot wait to meet my new team-mates and to start training with them.

"This is a very exciting time for the club and I am looking forward to playing my part in creating more history for this great club."
