Football transfer news and rumours: 'Barca will make £53m Mesut Ozil bid if they fail in Philippe Coutinho mission'

Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho remains top of Barcelona's wanted list this transfer window, but the Spanish giants have been lining up Plan B if their flirting fails.

According to Spanish outlet Don Balon, Barca will turn their attention towards Arsenal's Mesut Ozil instead.

The Germany international only has a year left on his current deal and is yet to sign an extension. Arsene Wenger has suggested Ozil could leave for nothing next summer, but an offer from the La Liga giants this summer could be too difficult to resist.

Arsenal splashed out a then club record £42.5m to sign the former Real Madrid midfielder while Barcelona are reportedly ready to lay out £53m to sign the 28-year-old.

A former Gunner is edging closer to a departure from the Nou Camp to return to the Premier League.

Thomas Vermaelen is being tracked by Tony Pulis at West Brom, report Sky Sports, even though the former Arsenal man still has two years left to run on his contract. Vermaelen spent last season on loan at Roma and has also courted interest from Crystal Palace.

New Barca manager Ernesto Valverde, however, could scupper any deal as he is keen to give the centre-half more playing time this season after being impressed with him in pre-season. That's according to Spanish newspaper AS.

Winston Reid is said to be next on Ronald Koeman's shopping list at Everton.

Koeman has been splashing the big cash this summer and hasn't stopped yet with the Mail claiming West Ham defender Reid is another target of the Dutchman's.

Ross Barkley still looks on course to leave Goodison Park this summer, but he'll have to drop his wage demands to do so.

The England international is desperate to leave Everton but Tottenham aren't prepared to break their pay structure to accommodate him.

Harry Kane, Hugo Lloris and Christian Eriksen are the only players in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad who command close to the wage ceiling of £100,000-a-week, according to the Mirror.

Chelsea won't be adding to their squad with the signing of Kostas Monalos this summer.

The defender looked on course to leave Roma earlier this summer and was on the brink of joining  Zenit St Petersburg at one point.

A move to the Russian side collapsed, but then the Greece international was linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge.

Monalos, however, says he's not going anywhere.

"I'll stay here, definitely," Manolas told Corriere dello Sport.

"I can't say anything about my contract, I don't know what will happen. But I'll stay."

Meanwhile, the Evening Standard claim Newcastle have entered the chase for Lucas Perez but are as yet not ready to match Arsenal's £13.4million valuation.
