After being dropped to the bench on Sunday, speculation linking Arsenal centre-back Shkodran Mustafi with a move to Italy has increased.

Recent talk has suggested Inter Milan were interested on taking the Germany international to San Siro on loan with an option to buy him later, however after paying £35m for the 25-year-old just under 12 months ago it is understood Arsenal would prefer a permanent transfer done before the window closes.

Another player who missed out on Sunday, goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, has also been linked with a move to Serie A.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Napoli are interested in signing the Belgium international as a possible replacement for Pepe Reina who may be heading to Paris St-Germain.

Despite stepping aside for Loris Karius during Liverpool's 4-0 drubbing of Arsenal on Sunday, manager Jürgen Klopp, though, has assured fans that Mignolet remains part of his plans and will start their next game on Sept 9.

“One hundred per cent Simon plays against [Manchester] City,” said Klopp.

“Intensity for a goalkeeper is different. It is not physical. It is mental. We said before the season we wanted to have three really strong goalkeepers. Simon is a clear No 1. He won the race in pre-season. You can always rely on him.

Paris St-German have reached an agreement with Monaco to take teenage striker Kylian Mbappé on loan with a purchase option of €180 million (£166m), according to L'Équipe.

After being linked with a number of clubs – including Real Madrid, Arsenal and Liverpool – Mbappé, it appears, will remain in France after PSG somehow managed to convince the Ligue 1 champions to hand over one of their most-prized assets to their biggest rivals. On loan.

The report in L'Équipe claims the 18-year-old will take his medical "no later than Monday morning" before penning an agreement to join PSG. It is thought Mbappé will join his new club after the international break when the France international will join up with Didier Deschamps's squad for their World Cup qualifiers with Holland and Luxembourg.
