David De Gea has insisted he is proud to play for Manchester United, despite ongoing speculation regarding a move to Real Madrid.

The Spanish goalkeeper's proposed move to Real Madrid collapsed in the summer of 2015 after a paperwork mix-up meant the deal could not be completed before the window closed.

De Gea went on to sign a new four-year contract that keeps him at Manchester United until 2019, but that has not stopped the 26-year-old being linked with a future move to the La Liga champions.

However the goalkeeper, who has not conceded a single goal so far this season, has insisted he remains focussed on playing for Manchester United.

The former Atletico Madrid stopper was asked how it feels to be rated as one of the top goalkeepers in the world in an interview with MUTV.

"Of course, you feel really proud when people think this about you," he said.

"It’s really good, but I like to keep my focus, keep working hard and doing my best. To be fair, when you are really young, you don’t think about the future too much, you just want to play with your friends.

"When you get older, you start to dream about being there, about being at a top team, so of course it’s a dream to be at a team like Manchester United."

In 2015 De Gea's girlfriend Edurne Garcia agreed with a Spanish TV presenter's claim that Manchester is "uglier than the back of a fridge".

"It's not very nice, that's for sure," she went on to say. "You have to hunt out specific places, the nicer places. But even then Spain is nicer. The reason I like it is because David’s there. With him being there, everything looks wonderful."
