Bristol City’s strike-force took full advantage of a lethargic Stoke display to send the Premier League side crashing out of the EFL Cup.

Famara Deidhiou pounced to put the Championship underdogs ahead before Matty Taylor sent them in to the fourth round to leave Mark Hughes fuming.

The warning signs were clear for Stoke after some lazy defending gave Deidhiou and Taylor clear-cut chances to break the deadlock before half-time.

But the Potters should have been in-front despite their defensive frailties when Kurt Zouma headed a Charlie Adam corner against the the bar in first-half stoppage time before Aden Flint kept it at 0-0 with a pair of goal-line clearances.

The half-time introduction of Saido Berahino could not prevent Stoke from going behind after 51 minutes when Flint’s clearing header sent Taylor through on goal. His shot hit the post, but Diedhiou was on-hand to score for the third game in-a-row.

The duo linked up to devastating effect after an hour to complete the upset. This time the Senegalese striker flicked a header through and Taylor finished left-footed into the bottom corner.
