Aaron Ramsey will return to the Arsenal squad for Wednesday night’s Premier League match at Queens Park Rangers, while Francis Coquelin will have to wear a protective face mask if he features in the game following the broken nose he sustained against Everton.
Ramsey suffered his third hamstring injury of the season last month during the 2-1 victory over Leicester City and has not played since. The Welsh midfielder had suffered a similar problem against Galatasaray in December but Wenger does not believe he will suffer physiologically because of the recurring injury.
The Arsenal manager said: “We have Aaron Ramsey back in the squad and from Everton I don’t think we lost anybody. We will check with the medical people whether he will be available or not, but there is no reason why he should not be available.
“With a repetition of muscular injury it can put a little bit of a handbrake on your body and to get rid of that is a psychological problem. Looking at him in training, I don’t think he suffers from that, but you lose a bit of confidence in your body.”
Mathieu Flamini is expected to remain absent for the next two Arsenal games, and Wenger does not believe Jack Wilshere will return in time for the FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester United next Monday.
Arsenal are in third, four points behind Manchester City in the Premier League table, leading Manchester United by one point, Liverpool by three and Southampton by five.
Per Mertesacker was dropped for the weekend victory over Everton, replaced by the Brazilian defender Gabriel Paulista, but Wenger did not reveal whether the German would return to the side at Loftus Road. “I cannot tell you, I have not decided yet,” said Wenger. “Honestly.
“Like everybody, we are all here to serve the club and raise above our own interest. He has played many games, has a fantastic mentality, he has great mental stature, absolutely remarkable, and his contribution to the team has been excellent up to now.”
