Mourinho lifts lid on private chat with Liverpool boss Rodgers

Jose Mourinho reveals that Brendan Rodgers congratulated him on Chelsea's win at Liverpool in a private call on Tuesday

Jose Mourinho has revealed that Brendan Rodgers called him to congratulate him on his Chelsea side’s win at Liverpool on Sunday.

Rodgers had accused the west Londoners of “parking two buses” at Anfield in his post-match news conference after the Blues secured a 2-0 victory to end his side’s 11-game winning streak and dent their Premier League title hopes.

But Mourinho, who Rodgers worked under as a coach during his first stint in charge at Stamford Bridge, says that the Northern Irishman was in a more philosophical mood two days after the loss.

“You know, pundits are pundits and I don’t want to comment a lot,” said Mourinho.

“Brendan is a manager and he’s somebody who I consider my friend. I met him a long time ago when he was a very young coach, coaching kids – and I consider him a friend.

“I know his words after the match but I also know his words today, and today he told me, ‘Congratulations for a great victory and a great performance’.

“So especially because he’s someone who I consider a friend and that I like, I forget the words after the match and I keep the words of today.

“He’s an intelligent guy and I’m sure after the match he watched it on video and I think now he understood what happened.”

Mourinho, whose Chelsea side host Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final on Wednesday following last week’s goalless draw in Spain, also insisted that he will be happy to remain in charge at Stamford Bridge “forever”.

“My future is Chelsea and when Chelsea decides that it’s time to stop our relationship, it’s Chelsea that decides, not me, because I want to stay forever,” he said.

“When Chelsea decides that I stop then it’s time for me to think about my future.”
