Arsene Wenger sends message to Arsenal fans about remaining transfers
Arsene Wenger confirms that Arsenal remain active in the summer transfer window ahead of the new season
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal remain “active” in the summer transfer window.
The north London side have been linked with a host of players this summer but the Gunners have so far only concluded deals to sign Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette.
Wenger is believed to be on the lookout for a number of other signings as he prepares to try and lead Arsenal to the Premier League title next term.
However, the Frenchman remained typically coy when asked about the speculation linking Arsenal with new signings on Saturday.
Speaking at his post-match news conference after Arsenal’s 5-2 win over Benfica in the Emirates Cup on Saturday, Wenger said: “We are still active in the transfer market in general.
“You have two ways to strengthen your team. First by improving the players you have and the way you play and secondly by bringing in players from outside.
“At the moment we focus on the first part and we have a big squad you know, [on Saturday] we had not involved Gibbs, Debuchy, Wilshere. We have a massive squad. We have to first focus on the players we have.”
Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season as they missed out on a place in the Champions League.
The north London side did end last season on a high, however, when they beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final to win the trophy for the third time in four years.
