Arsene Wenger replies when asked if Arsenal are signing top 21-year-old attacker
Arsene Wenger was giving nothing away when quizzed about the speculation linking Arsenal with Thomas Lemar
Arsene Wenger remained typically coy when asked if Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Thomas Lemar from Monaco this summer.
The north London side have been heavily linked with a move for the French midfielder in recent weeks as Wenger looks to further bolster his squad ahead of the new campaign.
There were reports in the British media last week that Arsenal were closing in on a big-money deal to bring Lemar to the club.
However, Wenger was giving nothing away when quizzed directly about Lemar after Arsenal’s 5-2 win over Benfica in the Emirates Cup on Saturday afternoon.
Asked if a deal for Lemar is close, Wenger told his post-match news conference at Emirates Stadium: “We don’t speak about how negotiations go.
“We come out [and tell you] once the the deal is done or not done. At the moment there’s nothing special to say on this case.”
Arsenal have made two signings so far this summer, having landed Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette.
The duo both made their Emirates Stadium debuts on Saturday as they helped Arsenal secure a thumping victory thanks to a hat-trick from Theo Walcott and goals from Olivier Giroud and Alex Iwobi.
Arsenal finished fifth in the Premier League last season but won the FA Cup.
