Lincoln 2-1 Everton U21
Everton U23s had Francis Jeffers in charge for their Checkatrade Trophy clash against Lincoln City which the Imps won 2-1.

The former Blues striker was given the reins of the second string — which, per competition rules, was actually an Under-21 team — alongside Sean Lundon while David Unsworth and John Ebbrell prepared for the senior side's League Cup date with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.

Goalkeeper Mateusz Hewelt made his return to action following an ankle injury that has kept him out all season so far.

“It was a frustrating time to get injured for me,” he told evertontv, "because, with it happening at the start of pre-season, it has meant I've not played competitively for the best part of six months.

“I'm fully focused on getting back to the level I was at before the injury. I want to re-establish myself in the Under-23s side and, if it's right, then possibly look at going out on loan in January.”

The Toffees had yet to pick up their first points in the group stage of the competition, having lost to Notts County in their first game and they got off to the worst possible start, falling behind to an early goal scored by Maguire-Drew.

They fell further behind later in the half when Lincoln doubled their lead.

Everton gave themselves a lifeline, though, with a late goal in the second half that made it 2-1 but while they came close to levelling, they couldn't find a second goal.

Scorer: Adeniran (81').

Everton U23s: Hewelt, Adreniran, Garbutt, Charsley, Foulds, Sambou (76' Lavery), Feeney, Evans (63' Bowler), Broadhead (83' Donkor), Markelo, Baxter.
Subs not used: Byrne, Mathis, Hilton.
