'Disappointed' Koeman thanks Everton

Tuesday, 24 October, 2017 31comments  |  Jump to most recent
Ronald Koeman has expressed his disappointment at the termination of his 16-month stint at Everton but thanked the club and wished them well in the future.

The Dutchman was sacked yesterday following a poor run of form that had yielded just two wins in 13 games, left the Blues in the bottom three of the Premier League and almost eliminated from the Europa League with just one point from three group matches.

In a statement, Koeman thanked the board, players and fans:

I would like to place on record my thanks to the players and staff for all their work and commitment during my 16 months as Everton manager.

I would like to thank Bill Kenwright, Farhad Moshiri and the Everton Board for the opportunity to have managed a great club, and to the fans as well for their passionate support for the club.

Naturally, I am disappointed at this moment, but I wish the team good luck in the future.

Well he isn’t bitter. He’s a professional and that was part of the problem.

All comms of this nature is produced via the company (ie, club), anyway. It will have been part of his severance package, so means nothing.

What irks is that every single piece of comms that falls out of this club has to name check that egotist Kenwright!

I wouldn't be bitter either with a £9m or so payoff and 18 months to do fuck all if I wanted.

Spot-on, Daniel. Meaningless platitudes to feed the media.

Or maybe they are his words and he is disappointed but wishes the club well.

I recall Martinez was more bitter and it didn't affect his payoff.

Wait for the book I guess

He wishes Everton well? He should do, he's got a nice stash to spend. I buy a ticket every week and don't win the BIGGY. He fucks up and walks away very rich. Not bad being a football manager, you never really lose.

Dammed if he does dammed if he doesn't and there will always be conspiracists out there who doubt the motive or origin. Let's move on.

Dang did anyone see the Niasse interview of him talking about how he was treated by Koeman? To be fair to Niasse he is calm but it seems very disrespectful by Koeman!

If you mean the subtitled interview in French, I watched it, Jackie. Not surprised at all, that's Koeman all over.

After getting whitewashed on Sunday he didnt seem to bothered on Sunday night out and about in Manchester living it up. Pics in todays papers say it all to me. Glad so glad we got rid regardless of cost as he never truly what being a blue is about. For most of us our day/week was ruined. To him, just another day.

Did you see the photos of him dining in Manchester on Sunday evening? Laughing and joking with his mates and Pep. Here's me, sulking and pissed off with what I had seen that afternoon.

That photo has changed my interest now, they don't give a rats arse about Everton or its fans. And I don't give a rat's arse about them.

Andy#14.
The writer didn't 'quite' nail how Evertonians feel/felt and look/ed at things.
Most of us are a bit more savvy than the writer gives us credit for.

What strikes me about it is the lack of gloating. He came here for money wrapped up in the name of a project. His heart was never really in it.

With the same cold emotionless eye for which the dutchman was famed, let's assess Ron's time with the club and his legacy:
£143m spent on players (source: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/everton-fc/transfers/verein/29/plus/0?saison_id=2017&pos=&detailpos=&w_s=),
no pace,
no balance,
no recognised striker,
no cover in important positions,
the alienation of Key players (one of which could see the club lose out on £40million in transfer fees)...
... so thanks for the thanks, Ron, but don't let the door hit you on the way out and all that.

Whoever takes over has a hell of a squad to try and overturn - the damage done over the summer is probably going to take at least three transfer windows to undo, and goodness knows what system we try and employ in the mean-time. Anyone heard of the 1-9-0?

He spent a hell of a lot more than 140 mill.. closer to 250 mill by my reckoning.. 155 mill this summer, Schneiderlin and Lookman was another 40.

And the stones 50 mill.

You're right Ciaran (19) - I forgot to include his first years spending - so in total (using the same source of information), his spend is more like £219 million.

Add in £2m to £10m in agents fees on each deal over £10m as well. £250m easy.

'.. expressed his disappointment at the termination of his 16-month stint at Everton..' Obviously, no-one likes to be sacked as its the public rubber-stamping of the words 'Failed dismally at the job in hand!' but he's still not expressing enough, is he?

In truth, Koeman's 'disappointment', if he truly wanted to go out as per that 'saying it like it is' persona he liked to project of himself, should have been clearly expressed as disappointment in his own failings!!..

You weren't made a scapegoat, Ronald, you just ultimately weren't up to the job, and regularly getting in your 'Everton, a 3-year project' soundbites just highlighted how you were always playing for time!!!

Plus buying him out, and "Compensation" to other staff leaving. We could have built a fair old team with that...

Thank heavens it's not our money.

Niasse interview on Koeman's poor treatment:

Niasse alludes Koeman may have been constructively trying to force Niasse to breach his contract and give him an excuse to get rid of him. Niasse says of Koeman, that he physically moved his things from the main Everton team to the Everton Under-21s; would not allow him to eat with the Everton first team. This is constructive dismissal.

John, like you, I suggested at the time it might be a potential case of constructive dismissal, if Niasse were to resign. I'm glad he stuck it out.
John Wilson
29 Posted 25/10/2017 at 13:20:55
Brent, that shows if nothing else that Niasse has something about him. As Ped on Toffee TV says, it's sad that only Niasse was playing in the final third to take a goal from Arsenal goalie's mistake.

If I was earning upwards of £40k a week for not doing something as stupid as refusing to train (for e.g.), I think I’d find it VERY easy to continue to not to rock the apple cart. Especially if just a few short years ago I’d been deemed not good enough for Brann.

I'm not sure our Ronald will ever have a stand named after him at our next ground will he. A wheelie bin perhaps ? Goodbye and good luck Ronald. You could always do better than us, apparently. We certainly can do better than you.

Great piece in the mirror about Ronald. He said BK’s office with all his theatre mementos, awards, stuffed parrots and signed Larry Grayson portraits was a bit strange.
