Brazil at Bolivia, World Cup Qualifiers: Final Score 0-0, Gabriel Jesus wasteful as Brazil get frustrating draw

Manchester City superstar Gabriel Jesus wasted some very good chances and saw the rest of his Brazil teammates also have a frustrating afternoon in front of goal as the Seleção got a 0-0 draw against Bolivia in the tough altitude of La Paz. Brazil dominated the entire match but couldn’t find the back of the net, though the results don’t matter at this point since Brazil are already qualified and in first place in the South American Qualifiers.

FIRST HALF

The first period was very entertaining, with both sides having some very good chances. Bolivia hit the crossbar just before halftime, but the best opportunities belonged to a Brazil side that created huge scoring chances with good passing and movement. Neymar and Gabriel Jesus had two one-on-ones in front of the goalkeeper, but the Bolivian shot-stopper made some tremendous interventions and kept his team in the game.

At halftime, Brazil should have scored one or two goals, and a goalless draw was dangerous in the altitude.

SECOND HALF

Brazil continued to dominate the game in the final period, constantly finding spaces inside the Bolivia defense and creating multiple chances through Neymar, Paulinho, Jesus and substitute Willian, but goalkeeper Carlos Lampe kept making big saves and giving his side a chance to get a big result at home. In the end, despite of Brazil’s dominance, they couldn’t get the victory.

It’s now two straight draws in the World Cup Qualifiers for Brazil, so they’ll want to end the campaign with a good win at home against Chile next Tuesday. They certainly have to be better at finishing chances.
